about us
Alpha & Omega Working Dogs came into being ten years ago. It was a natural process, borne from our founder's love for dogs, as well as his incredible affinity with them.

Overview
Our Founder: Sergeant Ray Harris is an 8-year Veteran with the Delaware State Department of Corrections. His career in law enforcement regularly exposed him to working dogs, and he discovered a passion for breeding, training, and competing. He is a member of Shutzhund USA, the premier club for German Shepherd trainers, as well as The National Working Dog Association.
Competitions: Ray has been competing since 2005, and has won awards in K9 sports up and down the east coast. In 2015, he became a certified decoy for Schutzhund, allowing him to decoy for club trials across the USA. He has performed in that capacity in seven states and counting.
Police Dogs: As of 2017, Ray has also expanded into developing Police K-9 units with several local Law Enforcement entities. He became a member of the USPCA to help police working dogs certify and compete in K-9 trials regionally.
Other Work: Alpha & Omega Working Dogs also trains non-working dogs. See our Services section for more details on our obedience, behavior modification, boarding, service and therapy training programs.
Keep Moving Forward: In the future, Ray intends to represent the United States in working dog competitions internationally, to further develop and refine his work with K-9, and to expand into other working dog areas. To that end, Alpha & Omega staff are all involved in ongoing education and training programs to better serve our furry friends and their humans.
Service Dogs: Alpha & Omega trains PTS/PTSD service dogs for veterans, first responders, and anyone who has undergone trauma. See our Services section for more detail.

Our Services
Boarding
Our facilities are trained to handle dogs of all sizes and temperaments for short to medium-length boarding stays. We don't keep dogs in crates all day - they'll go to bed happy and worn out from an appropriate amount of exercise. We are also equipped to accommodate special dietary needs and to administer medications as needed. For details, head over to our Contact page and tell us more about your dog.
Board and train
Our board and train program is an immersive experience for your dog, in which he will be boarded with his trainer and taught basic obedience. Specific training programs will be worked out to suit your needs.
Basic Obedience Training
In Basic Obedience Training, we give your puppy or grown dog a foundation for good behavior. This includes on-leash control, socialization, changing behaviors throughout maturation, and teaching the dog to focus on their handler. This program also includes an introduction to basic commands such as Sit, Heel, Down, and Come.
Advanced Obedience Training
In Advanced Obedience Training, you and your dog will learn off-leash trust, situational handler control, and an advanced or more thorough focus on the commands learned in Basic Obedience Training, as well as an introduction to the finished Heel position.
Doggone FUN DAY CAMP™
Day camps for dogs need to be a lot of things, but the most important is fun! Our Doggone Fun Day Camp is mentally stimulating and physically active. It’s a great way to improve your pup’s socialization with dogs and people, as well as get some regular exercise. As a bonus, it also helps dogs with separation anxiety and reduces destructive behaviors at home that stem from anxiety or restlessness. Dogs play (and rest) in small groups organized by size and play style, and we always send happy furry boys and girls back home to their families.
Behavior Modification
Behavior Modification address undesirable negative behaviors in your dog. We use a custom system based on positive reinforcement to change those behaviors. Our therapeutic approach never harms or frightens your dog, and instead uses a reward-based process to encourage behavioral changes.
PTS/PTSD and THERAPY DOG Training
PTS/PTSD and Service training prepares a dog to assist a person who has undergone trauma. Whether the source of one’s Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is due to service in the Armed Forces, a personal trauma, a natural disaster, or something else, Alpha & Omega works to create and foster an unbreakable bond of compassion and reliance between the service dog and the person for whom they will be trained. These classes can also prepare a dog for Therapy or Emotional Support roles in your life.

Explosives DETECTION
Our explosives detection program is rigorous and unmatched when it comes to developing single-purpose, single-handler teams dedicated to explosives detection. Often called “bomb-sniffing dogs,” our training starts in our New Jersey facility, where we train on a wide variety of explosive odors. We focus on eliminating all contamination and preparing our dogs to identify, quickly and reliably, any explosive odors. Our phases of training include:
Breeding/Selection: the best-in-class sporting dogs, renowned for their keen senses, drive, intelligence, stability, and stamina, are a required element in a successful partnership.
Socialization: Our trainee dogs are socialized to ensure they can function in multiple high-stress environments and around large groups without negative impacts on their ability to perform.
Imprinting: Alpha & Omega Full Service Scent Detection trainee dogs are then given thorough scent training, where they are taught to recognize over 30 different explosive odors and alert their handlers.
Operational Training: The final stage involves preparing the dog for the environments in which they might actually work, using critical training methods to make sure the dog is ready for deployment and field work.
NARCOTICS DETECTIOn
Narcotics searches are a crucial part of scent detection training, and is in high demand among working dog clients. Our dogs are carefully evaluated, and selected based on many factors. Once approved, they’re trained to detect narcotic substances in various locations, including residential properties, schools, workplace and office environments, open outdoor areas, and vehicles. Our certified K9s alert their handler to the presence of the substance and location through passive or aggressive alerts.
Narcotics Dogs are trained and certified to detect the following controlled substances:
Marijuana
Cocaine and Crack Cocaine
Methamphetamine
MDMA (Ecstasy)
Heroin
BED BUG DETECTION
Bed bugs are unpleasant, itchy, gross little pests, and they’re hard to detect without specialized equipment. At Alpha & Omega Full Service Scent Detection, we think the best equipment is a well-trained dog. In this training course, dogs are taught by handlers to identify the scent of these unwanted critters. This service is growing quickly in popularity as more and more Americans turn to eco-friendly pest management solutions.
Detection dogs are a much safer alternative to pesticides as a management strategy. Using the dogs senses, operators can determine with great precision where bed bugs are located, thus minimizing the area which will need to be sprayed. Dogs can smell in parts per trillion, which is far beyond the human capability, and thus can detect bed bugs through all phases of their life cycle, including nymphs.
